Yubico, the leading provider of hardware authentication security keys, announced new biometric authentication security keys today. Dubbed the YubiKey Bio Series, these new security keys come in USB-A and USB-C variants and are designed for desktop platforms like Windows, Mac, Linux, and Chrome OS, as well as desktop web browsers like Chrome and Edge.
“With the launch of the YubiKey Bio Series, we are proud to raise the standard for biometric security keys, enabling simple and strong passwordless authentication for our enterprise customers and everyday YubiKey users,” Yubico CEO and co-founder Stina Ehrensvärd says.
Yubico bills the Bio Series as its first security keys to support fingerprint recognition for secure passwordless and second-factor logins. They support FIDO2/WebAuthn and FIDO U2F and are compatible with Microsoft 365, Microsoft Azure Active Directory (AAD), Citrix Workspace, Duo, GitHub, IBM Security Verify, Okta, and Ping Identity. Fingerprint templates are stored on-device in a separate security element.
YubiKey Bio – FIDO Edition (USB-A) costs $80 while YubiKey C Bio – FIDO Edition (USB-C) costs $85. You can learn more from the Yubico website.
